Far away from the man Ashton Mortal once was, he pushes toward redemption, toward dawn's beautiful light as he stares upon a dark horizon, dreams of lying with his wife under the calming sway of an old willow tree, his son not far in the distance enjoying the warming sunbeams on a beautiful Sunday morning...

Cold are the moments he currently lives in, finding himself imagining this far away place where simple treasure are plentiful, where his days slow to the sounds of the wind in the trees, away from talk of diplomacy and war, away from his burden that drags him further into the dark abyss...

For those who seek to destroy the sanctity of peace ready yourselves, for your enemy seeks you. Summon your greatest courage in the face of Mortalitus for judgment is upon you and mercy will be left to hindsight...

Mark S. LaMaster was born and raised in Southern California where he currently resides. Aside from writing science fiction, he is also a professional custom tattoo artist/freelance-artist, running a private art studio in Southern California.

I'm not much of a sci fi reader but I stumbled across your book while browsing one day and it seemed interesting from the sample so I decided to buy it and to be honest I thought it was a really great book, it starts off sort of suspenseful because you don't really know what's going on, but there are certain questions that you want answered so you have to keep on reading to find out. I really like that about your writing, how it seems to just draw the reader in. I also love how it has a little bit of a love story between Angela and Ashton, you can really feel how much he cares about her and how much he would do for her and also for his family.
The whole plot of the story I thought was pretty good it was based off dreams and paintings pretty much, until one day it all finally comes together for him, but yet there are still so many questions that he needs and wants to be answered. He finds himself in a very strange place and alone, or so he thinks. You gave a lot of detail to each and every character down to the way they drink certain drinks, and to how they talk. It really did capture the life and the emotions people felt. When you speak of someone in your book you can feel what they feel and you can truly learn to really like someone and/or really hate someone. You caught emotions well with each character,
SPOILER like in the Chapter Requiem I thought the funeral scene was very well written, it drew me in and just brought tears to me eyes, every time someone goes up to talk, it just makes you really picture what's going on and you cant help but feel sad. .

I did like how you put a twist on the whole view of creation, we have all seen different types of science creation movies and read the books, but yours took it a step farther, you created a character with so many different traits that it would seem like it was too much, but they way you describe his personal traits and his emotional ones really helps the reader understand how he can be all of these things such as hero, a fighter, and yet he is loving, and honorable. I didn't quite understand the line "this battle will find you regardless of avenue", until I read the story, and it does have a lot of meaning behind it. The way you tie in every detail from beginning to end was very well executed, you maintained a steady a flow throughout the entire book and were pretty accurate with everything as well.
Overall I thought your book was well written for a first time writer, and as I said before for someone like me to be interested in a sci fi novel has definitely opened my eyes to other books like yours. I was definitely pleased after reading your book and then looking at your website that there will be 2 more books, because the cliff hanger for the first book is ridiculously amazing and so horrible that I cant wait for your second book to release, but then again like most writers you will probably make Book twos cliff hanger worse, Trust me do not go to the end of the book because it will ruin the story.

Chaos Mortalitus Revelations Book Two eBook Mark LaMaster Reviews

Disclaimer I was given a free review copy of this book

I felt like the ideas presented in this book were good, but the style in which they were presented made it a little difficult to read. It was written in a "stream of thought" kind of way, and at times it read as if someone was telling me a story, instead of showing me the action and allowing a story to come out of it. I would recommend that anyone considering this book download a sample and see if the style suits you, if you like the first few pages, then you'll like the book, and if you do, then you're in for a pretty good story.
I read Chaos Mortalitus a year and a half ago, and I am as eager today as I was when I finished it to pick up where the story of Ashton Mortal leaves off. LaMaster builds a monumental cliffhanger that will stick with you in the same vein that Stephen King ensured that you would never again enjoy the circus.

The most important thing to keep in mind before you even turn to the first page is that you must be willing to challenge everything you believe or think you know about creation, religion, the universe, and the dominance of man. The author commands you to adopt this mindset early on, with an ominous sixth sentence

"...only the empty abyss might know the secret truths, every dream, every tragedy, and every idea that changed a generalized consensus into something the universe has never seen."

The strength of the story contained in the pages of this book is the way that a vivid and intense world of science fiction is created and blended with the humanity of a traditional story of unconditional love; both between a man and a woman, and a father and son. (The latter is one that is personified in more than one relationship - one of which is the crux of LaMaster's vision.)

As you navigate your way through the imaginative and penultimately original ideas that the author weaves, you will come across a myriad of deep and well developed characters that are constructed individually as their own entities; as opposed to the far-too-common literal tragedy of being mere instances that are encountered on the path of the main character. LaMaster has truly crafted his own universe.

For those looking to be critical of this work, I will caution you that the print itself is not grammatically perfect, and the complexity of the story may, in fact, be too much for the average reader to comprehend.

Regardless, I guarantee that even the most incredulous and discretionary of readers - upon finishing this book - will find themselves eager to crack the binding of book 2. So, if you are willing to open your "minds eye" and experience the chills, the tears, the fear, and the wonder that this book will inevitably evoke, then I strongly urge you to invest a few hours of your life exploring the mind of Mark LaMaster.
This author has incredible imangination, the way the book describes alien worlds and battles is surreal and paints a picture in your mind that will definitely have you dreaming about the end of the universe. Great combination between good and evil and believers and non believers of extaterrestrial life. The sword play and complete destruction of armys is completely enthralling.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone form age 3 to 75.
